James Square owner’s track record: 9 nursing homes ranging from bad to excellent
SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The partners who bought the troubled James Square Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre in 2015 collectively own eight out-of-state nursing homes with mixed track records.
Those facilities range from a nursing home in Illinois so understaffed its residents laid in urine-soaked beds for hours to a home in New Jersey that gets the federal government’s best rating.
Abraham Gutnicki, an Illinois lawyer, and Judy Kushner, a New Jersey nursing home administrator, bought James Square in 2015, eight years after the 440-bed facility went into receivership following the death of its previous owner, Edward Leffler.
